Carrboro Book Beat

Inaugural

Press Release

WCOM  103.5 FM Announces----

Carrboro Book Beat Mondays 10 am –11 am
Paul Nagy & Audrey J. Layden, Hosts and Co-Producers

September 1st WCOM 103.5 FM begins broadcasting a new, weekly, hour-long, live radio show devoted to the literary life of the greater Triangle. The show features reviews of new books by local authors, interviews with working fiction and nonfiction writers, editors, poets, journalists, publishers and all others engaged with the written arts. Our mandate is to showcase local as well as visiting authors and newly published works of topical interest.

WCOM is all listener supported, volunteer powered community radio broadcasting from downtown Carrboro, NC.  The signal reach on-air is a modest five mile radius but we webcast through Ibiblio around the world around the clock and have a dedicated listenership.  Carrboro Book Beat shows are recorded and available to download as podcasts.  Please visit www.communityradio.coop to learn more about the station’s community service mission.

Audrey Layden produced, hosted for nearly three years a radio show dealing with mental health issues. She currently produces a half-hour about local arts and an hour that teaches both English and Spanish as second languages.  In addition she organizes and produces ‘specials’ on community issues like homelessness and race relations.  She is a voracious reader with eclectic tastes in both fiction and non-fiction and a therapist in private practice.

Paul Nagy, managing editor of Wordtrade.com, an internet review devoted to appraisals of academic titles in the humanities and sciences. He is also the founding editor of Chapel Hill Review of Books which is dedicated to showcasing locally written fiction and nonfiction. In addition Paul hosts WCOM Touchstones, a show that deals with local religions and spiritual experience.

Please add us to your list of media outlets for the Southeast and North Carolina and the Triangle.  Books written by local authors or about the Southeastern area, culture and history are our central focus. We also consider titles of general topical interest.

Feel free to mail or email us with news of new books by local authors or of titles that may appeal to a general educated readership.

We are paying attention and want our local authors to get plenty of air time!
